    ======================

    Thank you for considering me for the position of our next MASA President-Elect. As the proud Superintendent of N. St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School District, I am honored to seek this opportunity to serve you.

    Born and raised in southeastern Minnesota, Rollingstone is my hometown. I graduated from Winona High School and later attended college at the University of Minnesota - Duluth where I earned Bachelor's Degrees in Spanish, English as a Second Language, and Elementary Education.

    I began my educational career in the United States Peace Corps, as a teacher-trainer in the island country of Kiribati. Subsequently, I worked for Saint Paul Public Schools for 19 years, where first taught elementary bilingual classes and adult ESL classes. I later served as an Assistant Principal and Principal for nine years developing ESL and language immersion programming.  Later, as a district leader, I held the roles of Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction, Assistant Superintendent of schools, and ultimately as Chief Academic Officer. Currently, I am in my fifth year as Superintendent of District 622 (North Saint Paul–Maplewood–Oakdale).

    Throughout my career, I have focused on developing support networks for school leaders that are focused on collective problem solving and shared learning. Within our MASA organization, I am specifically interested in strengthening relationships between school leaders in greater Minnesota and urban districts, while also supporting women and leaders of color to pursue the Superintendency. We have much to learn from each other, and as a unified body, I believe we can truly strengthen the voice of our organization.

    In other leadership roles, I currently serve on the Executive Board of the Association of Metro Area School Districts (AMSD) and co-facilitate the efforts of “Reimagine Minnesota” to support Minnesota Superintendents in the work of decreasing racial disparities in public schools. Recently, I worked with AASA (American Association of School Administrators) to mentor school superintendents in Puerto Rico following the hurricane and subsequent restructuring of the island’s school system.  Additionally, I currently co-chair the Minnesota State Task Force on School Finance, where we are working to bring together perspectives from all parts of our state as we consider how school finance can be improved for all of Minnesota. Finally, as the Past-President of MAASS (Mid-American Association of School Superintendents), I have worked to strengthen authentic communication among Superintendents across ten midwestern states. (In this, I am pushing for us to share not only our successes with each other, but also our failures. By being open with each other about what we truly need, I believe we can be stronger supports for each other in this work).

    More than anything, I am passionate about saving public education from the many threats that currently face us. Among my priorities, high school reform is at the top of my list, as well as elevating the leadership and voice of young people as shared decision-makers.

    With this, I would be most humbled and honored to receive your vote for the position of MASA President-Elect.

    Warmly,

    Christine Tucci Osorio
